CRAFT | Rain Stick

This week we are learning that God is Lord! We see in the book of Genesis that God created everything and is in complete control.

Create a rainstick today to help your family always remember that God is your Lord. Every time you hear the rainstick, you can remember that just like God created the rainforest and is in complete control of it, He also created you and is in complete control of your life too!

Supplies Needed:

  • Sturdy cardboard tube (from an aluminum foil roll, wrapping paper, or paper towels)

  • Paint or Markers

  • Paper

  • Yarn

  • Rubberbands

  • Scissors

  • Beads, rice, beans, popcorn kernels, or other material for inside the rainstick

  • Glue

  • Pipe cleaners and/or aluminum foil (optional)

  1. Start by painting/coloring a design on your cardboard tube. Let it dry completely.

  2. Cut out two large circles from regular paper. The circles need to be large enough to cover the ends of your cardboard tube and about two inches down the tube.

  3. Color and design the circles to match the cardboard tube. You can even cut fringe around the edging of the circles for more texture and design.

  4. Attach one circle to one end of the cardboard tube with a rubber band. Use glue to further secure the circle to the cardboard tube.

  5. Now it's time to fill your rainstick. Beans, popcorn kernels, and rice are great to start with. Also consider adding twisted pipe cleaners or strips of tightly rolled aluminum foil into the rainstick. This will give the rice and beans more surface to knock against while traveling from one end of the tube to the other.

  6. Once you are happy with the sound of your rainstick, secure the second circle to the open end of your rainstick with glue and rubber bands.

  7. Lastly, tie yarn to each end of the glue stick, covering the rubber bands.
